Joint Meeting of Fertilizer Stakeholders and Relevant Security Operatives on the implementation of the National Fertilizer Quality Control (NFQC) Act and the Regulations held on the 12th November, 2020.

In his opening remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) represented by the Director of Farm Input Support Services (FISS) Department Engr. Tunde Bello reiterates the fact that security agencies have a major part to play in the implementation of the National Fertilizer Quality Control (NFQC) Act which was enacted to protect the interest of farmers.

The act is meant to be implemented by the FISS department where sales are ensured, underweight and diversion of fertilizer issues are resolved. The essence of the meeting is to remind the relevant security agencies of their expected roles in the implementation of the Act which is mainly to support the department in the successful enforcement of the Act. The areas they are needed include the following:

  1. Making sure the issue of misbranding is stopped
  2. Ensure fertilizer warehouses comply with the Act
  3. Ensure that relevant bills are paid for revenue generation for the government
  4. Protect small holder farmers, agro businesses as well as staff of the department who will be at the fore front of the enforcement. etc

According to him, if all these are achieved, then food security is assured.
